An important and very rare wood 13th century figure of a Water Moon Guanyin, Jin Dynasty (1124-1235)
Sold for €2,589,400 in our June 2023 sale. It had remained in the same family for almost 100 years after it had been bought by an ancestor at auction in Paris in 1932. Without knowing its rarity and value, the figure had experienced turbulent times being evacuated to the countryside during the war before finally gracing the family home in Paris for many decades. Oblivious to its history, the figure had originally been sold at auction in one of the most important sales of Chinese sculpture in Paris in 1932, its appearance on the market a true discovery.

A magnificent and extremely rare large famille rose 'dragon' vase
Qianlong six-character seal mark in iron-red and of the period
The 'dragon' vase made under the Qianlong emperor was discovered in a London home where it had been sitting in the hallway for many years before it was first seen by a Bonhams specialist on a visit. Originally acquired by William Dederich (1872-1926), an English businessman, it had been passed down in the family and had never been on the market. To add to the excitement, it was discovered that it was the exact pair to a vase sold in Bonhams Hong Kong in 2011 with a similarly exciting history as it had graced the home of an American collector for many decades until a random enquiry brought it to the attention of Bonhams. This masterpiece achieved €1,161,600 (including premium) at Bonhams Paris on 10 December 2024.

An important and very rare green jade pouring bowl, Yi
Yuan Dynasty/early Ming Dynasty
A rare 14th century green jade pouring bowl was sold at auction in Bonhams Paris in December 2024. Acquired in China in the late 19th century by a German collector, it had been handed down in the family and had never been on the market. Possibly unique, the bowl still had the original label noting the Palace inventory number indicating that it had at one point been part of the Imperial collection of the Qing emperors. A rare testimony to the artistic exchange between China and Central Asia during the 14th century, it was hammered down at 190.900€ after fierce bidding.
