RARE TENTURE EN BROCART DE SOIE REPRÉSENTANT LE PARADIS BOUDDHIQUE, Chine, dynastie Qing, époque Qianlong (1736-1795)
Adjugé 28 864 €

Finement tissé en fils d'or et de couleur, il représente le paradis bouddhique :

de haut en bas, le soleil et la lune, deux groupes de quatre apsaras portant des offrandes, trois bouddhas du passé, du présent et du futur (Bhaisajyaguru, Sakyamuni, Amitabha), les disciples les plus proches de Bouddha (Mahakashyapa et Ananda), et enfin les dix-huit luohan et quatre rois célestes (Si Da Tian Wang 四大天王). Une inscription Wu Liang Shou Zun Fo « Amiytayus, Bouddha de la vie éternelle » est placée dans la partie supérieure. Les bordures sont tissées d'une frise de fleurs avec des accrocs et des déchirures horizontales.

Artcurial: the results of the Art of Asia sale
on December 11th, 2024!

On December 11th, Artcurial's Asian Art department held a successful sale, with some very fine bids, which we invite you to discover. The sale featured 177 lots, within which Japanese prints, Chinese fine arts including a fine pair of jade wedding bowls.

A RARE PAIR OF CARVED WHITE AND RUSSET JADE MARRIAGE BOWLS, China, Qing dynasty, Qianlong period (1736-1795)

This type of bowls with the character xi (happiness) are known as ‘marriage bowls’, usually used as a gift for royal weddings. Carved in a remarkable quality, the white jade with russet veins color is one of the most rare and appreciated. 

L.: 4 ½ and 4 ¾ in.

H.: 1 ¾ and 2 in.

Provenance: From a French private collection developed in the late 19th century, transmitted by descent to the present owner.

A PARTIAL GILT METAL HANDWARMER, China, early Qing dynasty (17th century)

Octagonal, domed body, decorated with dragons, phoenixes, qilin and turtles above tumultuous waves. The shoulder is adorned with a frieze of ruyi 如意 “According to one’s wishes”, and the rim decorated with the auspicious formulae Fu Lu Shou 福 禄 寿 “Wish of a prosperous and happy life”, and Chang Sheng Wansui 长生万岁 “Long life and eternity”. The underside is engraved with four characters Qian Di Jiu Wu 潜 邸 舊 物 “Former possessions of a secret mansion”. The lid is perforated with a flower and foliage design, the handles held by two dragon heads, one handle slightly twisted.

A RARE SILK BROCADE HANGING OF THE BUDDHIST PARADISE, China, Qing dynasty, Qianlong period (1736-1795)

Finely woven in gold and colored threads, depicting the Buddhist paradise : from top to bottom, the sun and moon, two groups of four apsaras bearing offerings, three Buddhas of Past, Present and Future (Bhaisajyaguru, Sakyamuni, Amitabha), Buddha’s closest disciples (Mahakashyapa and Ananda), and finally the eighteen luohan and four celestial kings (Si Da Tian Wang 四大天王). An inscription Wu Liang Shou Zun Fo “Amiytayus, Buddha of eternal life” is placed in the upper part. The borders are woven with a frieze of flowers with snags and horizontal tears.
