TABLE RONDE
« Le Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities (Stockholm) : histoire, collections et crise contemporaine »
en anglais
Founded in the early 20th century, the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities in Stockholm holds one of Europe’s
most important Asian art collections, comprising 100,000 objects. Among them is the world’s most significant collection of Chinese Neolithic artefacts, built in part through the pioneering work of Johan Gunnar Andersson. Organised by Asia Collections Network – Europe, this roundtable will examine the museum’s current fragile situation and the concerns raised by its new museographic project, in which a significant
part of the collections, particularly the pre-modern holdings, appears to be excluded from the visitor route and relegated to storage.
Speakers:
The foundation of the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities and the formation of its ancient Chinese collections with Anke Hein, professor of Archaeology, University of Oxford
The royal collections of the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities with Cecilia Nordström, Head of Department, Asian Ceramics & Works of Art
The Swedish model of cultural institution management and its contemporary implications with Ola Wong, journalist and writer
Moderators :
Iside Carbone et Arnaud Bertrand, Co-founders and Directors, Asia Collections Network – Europe
