Hybrid Conference: “The Art of Urushi: A Living Heritage Between Japan and France” (in French and Japanese – with interpretation)
At a time when the Noto region, the cradle of this tradition, is suffering the consequences of a devastating earthquake and climate change, this conference will also highlight preservation efforts, including the initiative led by Princess Akiko during a charity event in November 2024.
Featuring Kazumi Murose, Living National Treasure of Japan, and Catherine Nicolas, winner of the Meilleur Ouvrier de France award, for a discussion on the growing recognition of Urushi in Europe, Franco-Japanese exchanges surrounding this rare craftsmanship, and the threats currently facing its transmission.
