Karen WATANABE is inspired by the subtle details that surround her: observing the beauty of simple things, pure and natural, to imagine a story told with a sharp point. Clouds blown up after a dragon passes through the sky, a suspended discussion between two pine grosbeaks on the falling snow, the waltz of a jellyfish in its seaweed garden...
She tells her stories using Kirigami, a Japanese paper-cutting technique, playing with contrasts, fullness and emptiness, dressing up detailed shapes with motifs, and bringing her tales to life.
