About the event
The "Chinese Room" or "Room of Engraved Panels" brings together elements of the decoration designed by Victor Hugo for Juliette Drouet's house in Guernsey in 1863-1864. Drawn from different rooms, they were assembled by Paul Meurice and Siegfried Bing for the opening of the museum in 1903. This exuberant decoration evokes not only the great writer's penchant for Asian art, particularly Chinese, from which he drew his inspiration, but also his inexhaustible creativity in the field of interior design.
