MISSION 128 - Missions étrangères de Paris

From the arrival of Saint Francis Xavier in Japan in 1549 to the contemporary era, the exhibition retraces the incredible Christian adventure in the Japanese archipelago. The most emblematic pages and figures of this lesser-known history – the Jesuit art school of Nagasaki, the major Japanese embassies in Europe, the "hidden" Christians, the missionary action – are evoked through archival documents, artworks, and objects from the collections of the Paris Foreign Missions, private collections, and European and Japanese institutions.
