About the event

“Du bol ! - Through the Asian collections of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs".

By Béatrice Quette, curator, in charge of the Asian and non-Western collections of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs - Paris.

On the occasion of the 6th edition of the Printemps asiatique, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs presents from June 7 to July 9, 2023, 150 bowls chosen from its Asian collections. An archetypal form of the table in Asia, the bowl can be dedicated to several uses or intimately linked to a particular practice. The richness of the collections of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs' ancient and contemporary holdings offers a wide range of bowls, along with their essential accessories. The "tokonoma unit", a removable alcove in a tea house created by the Yamasho company in Kyoto, is exceptionally presented on this occasion. This presentation of nearly 250 Chinese, Japanese and occasionally Korean objects marks out the course of the museum's permanent collections, from the Middle Ages to the international design rooms.
