Cultural evening at Fondation Custodia, Frits Lug Collection (Guided tour, Lecture & Cocktail)

When Frits Lugt (1884-1970), the great Dutch art historian and collector, decided to move his collections to the Hôtel Turgot, which houses the Fondation Custodia in the heart of Paris, Chinese porcelain was an integral part of his thinking. He wanted to give the French public an impression of the interiors of the Dutch Golden Age, and a cabinet containing porcelain was an essential part of the Dutch tradition. The collection, built up through Lugt's acquisitions and then added to by his successors at the head of the Fondation Custodia, forms a small but exceptional collection of high quality porcelain.

The catalogue raisonné of this collection, published in 2023, was compiled by Christiaan J. A. Jörg, an eminent specialist in Chinese porcelain. It describes in detail the 125 pieces in the collection and places them in their scientific context. The richly illustrated catalogue also traces the history of the collection.
