The future of forms - Contemporary Japanese ceramics

Focus exhibition (Salle du Bouddha).
75 years ago, the Musée Cernuschi presented the very first exhibition of contemporary Japanese ceramics in France, curated by René Grousset. Today, on the occasion of the Japanese Summer, it presents an ensemble of ceramics produced between 2006 and 2020, testifying to the diversity and dynamism of this creative field in Japan.

On the occasion of the Japanese Summer, the Musée Cernuschi is exhibiting in the painting room a group of works by Shimomura Ryōnosuke (1923-1998) donated by the artist's widow in 2014. A major player in the artistic avant-garde in post-war Japan and painting co-founder of the Pan-Real Art Association in 1948, Shimomura set out to reinvent the traditional Japanese nihonga.
