From carp to hake. New treasures and contemporary perspectives
From late June to January 4, 2026

The museum celebrates the enrichment of its collections by highlighting newly acquired works made possible through the generosity of donors and the support of public institutions. This dynamic approach offers an opportunity to discover objects that carry a rich history of cross-cultural exchanges—often very beautiful, sometimes very rare, and in some cases, precious. Created in the 17th and 18th centuries in Asia for Europeans or through contact with them, these objects bear witness to globalization during the era of the East India Companies. Hybrid weapons, syncretic porcelain, composite boxes, and mixed furniture—all illustrate the movement of people, goods, ideas, and knowledge around the globe, and challenge our relationship with others and with the world.
Wishing to move beyond its academic boundaries, the museum presents this selection of works through an offbeat, original, and decentered perspective, and has invited an unexpected partner to join it on the field of the arts. Football Club Lorient (FCL) responded to the call for a unique project. A panel of individuals from its ranks—players, coaches, supporters, and staff members—was invited to preview this unique collection and select one or more favorite pieces, or those that resonated with their personal sensitivities or stories, etc. This dialogue between two seemingly distant worlds is also a way to explore the question of otherness.
